Accessing Library Resources Online: On-Campus and Off-Campus via OpenAthens

This guide will provide users with information on how to access the library's online resources, while on campus or off campus.

When accessing digital content using Ross Library's catalog (i.e. Discover@Cottey) or "library links" to digital content from the Library's website, OpenAthens will prompt you to log in using your Cottey credentials.

  • Navigate to the library's website to find resources. https://cottey.edu/library
  • When you click on a licensed resource (i.e. database, journal article, eBook, etc.), a new page will open prompting you to enter your username (your full Cottey email address: yourname@cottey.edu). Click "next," and then enter your password.  (This is the password you use for Outlook, OneDrive, etc.)
  • Once you successfully login, you will have authenticated access for the next 8 hours without having to login again, as long as your browser session remains open.

If you locate a licensed digital resource on some other website (not Connelly's), look for a login link. (Most publisher websites will provide some sort of login link). Login links might contain terms such as:

  • "Check access"
  • “Login through your institution”
  • "Access through your institution"
  • "OpenAthens"

While the navigation may vary from publisher to publisher, after clicking on the login link, you will typically be prompted to specify “Cottey College" and then prompted to enter your Cottey username and password.
